Purpose Improve bearing capacity of ground for new Business Park surrounding Airport

In South Africa; the developing company CSV needed to increase the bearing capacity of a 15 hectare site surrounding Cape Town International Airport.

The land was previous used as a dumping ground and had between 2-6m of sand, miscellaneous refuse and builders rubble to treat.

Director Neil Theron created a sub-division of CSV and brought in Braam Compion to direct operations of the new company RIC Africa.

A RIC 9000 unit was bought and mounted on a CAT 345B in order to complete the task.

Specifications

Area: 150, 000 sq.m
Contract Period: 32 weeks
Depth on fill: 2 to 6m
Water Table: 1 to 4m
Compaction method: 60 blows per point with final set limited to 4mm per blow
Secification required: 150 kPA bearing 20mm max settlement
Production rate: 950 sq.m / day
Plate bearing tests: 6 to 9mm final settlement
